Gran Café de la Parroquia ReviewMore than a coffeehouse, La Parroquia is an institution. Making the scene here for morning or afternoon coffee is mandatory on any trip to Veracruz. The action takes place in a large, bustling dining area facing the malecón. There's nothing fancy about it; the furniture is simple but comfortable, and there's a minimum of decoration. The thing to order is café lechero. You'll get a few ounces of dark coffee in a glass. Add sugar, if desired, and stir, clinking your spoon against the glass. This will attract the attention of the waiter who circulates with the kettle of steaming milk. Don't be shy. The sound of clinking glass rings throughout the dining room. The cafe also offers pastries and decent breakfasts, but some of the main courses disappoint. Note: This information was accurate when it was published, but can change without notice. Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.
Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.
The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
