Snowmobiling

Vermont has a well-developed network of snowmobile trails throughout the state. The best source of information on snowmobiling in Vermont is VAST (Vermont Association of Snow Travelers), 41 Granger Rd., Barre, VT 05641 (tel. 802/229-0005; www.vtvast.org), which produces a helpful newsletter and can help point you and your machine in the right direction.

Snowmobile rentals are somewhat hard to come by in Vermont, though guided tours are common. (Contact VAST for information on rentals.) In southern Vermont, High Country Tours, 8 1/2 miles west of Wilmington (tel. 800/627-7533 or 802/464-2108), offers tours in the Green Mountain National Forest lasting between 1 hour ($40-$55) and a full day ($275).
