Location is not everything, but to sit with a pleasant lunch or moonlit dinner in this most elegant piazza will be one of those Verona memories that stays with you. Impero makes an okay pizza -- especially for undiscerning tourist tastes -- but any of the two dozen or so varieties will taste pretty heavenly if you're sharing an outdoor table with your Romeo or Juliet.

If Impero is full and the Arena area is more convenient to your day's itinerary, try the well-known and always busy Pizzeria Liston, a block off Piazza Brà at Via Dietro Listone 19 (tel. 045-803-4003), which also serves a full trattoria menu (all major credit cards accepted; closed Wed). Its pizzas are said to be better, but its side-street setting -- even with outdoor tables -- doesn't quite match that of the Impero.
