Planning a Trip

Getting There -- Fifteen trains depart daily from Budapest's Déli Station and five from Keleti Station, for Veszprém. Only six of them are so-called direct (but still require a connection) taking as little as 1 hour and 45 minutes. It's 2 1/2 hours or a longer trip if you don't plan wisely. Tickets cost 2,350 Ft for a direct train, while on other trains the fare is 2,150 Ft to 2,350 Ft. If you're driving take the M7 to the lake, then take Route 71 to Route 72 leading into the city.

Visitor Information -- Tourinform, Vár u. 4 (tel. 88/404-548), is open in summer, weekdays from 9am to 6pm and weekends 10am to 4pm; in winter, weekdays 9am to 5pm, and closed weekends. Ibusz, Rákoczi u. 6 (tel. 88/565-540), is open Monday through Friday from 8:30am to 4:30pm. Both offices provide information, sell city maps, and help with hotel and private-room bookings.
