Frommer's Review
Set on one of the oldest, narrowest streets of medieval Vienna, a short walk north of the cathedral, this is the kind of smoky, mysterious, and shadowy cafe that evokes subversive plots, doomed romances, and revolutionary movements being hatched and plotted. During the day, it's a busy workaday restaurant patronized by virtually everybody. But as the night progresses, you're likely to rub elbows with denizens of late-night Wien who get more sentimental and schmaltzy with each beer. Foaming mugfuls sell for 2.90€ ($3.75) each and can be accompanied by heaping platters of goulash and schnitzels. Main courses range from 5€ to 8€ ($6.50-$10). It's open daily 10am-2am.
