Hollmann Belletage
The Belletage is smack in the heart of town, but you might miss it walking down the Köllnerhofgasse. The charmingly quirky establishment is housed in a fin-de-siècle apartment building where the staff see themselves as hosts rather than just employees. The rooms are in a typically modern Austrian style, with rain showers and beautiful baths, some of which are hidden in cupboards or only separated from the bed by a partition. An extra perk is the included mini bar. Instead of a buffet, there is a 6-course breakfast menu included in the room rate and the living room and spa area have wood-burning fireplaces. There's also a charming garden terrace in the courtyard that is a peaceful retreat from the busy streets of downtown. After expanding twice in 2006 and 2008, it seems to have all the bases covered. The in-house cinema shows three films a day, all somehow relating to Vienna (like the classic The Third Man, starring Orson Welles). The newest addition, the Spa-Suite Separee, is a luxury abode for home-away-from-home travelers; with its own modern Turkish bath, canopy bed, free-standing bathtub, fireplace, kitchen, and 10-person dining room, guests can play host themselves. Everything about this place is fun, sophisticated, and simply inspired. Make sure you book well ahead as it only has 26 rooms.
