It looks like a boat and in fact does function as the docking station for passenger ships along the Danube canal. This stylish cafe/restaurant at the Schwedenplatz "port" is a welcome change from the present concentration of ice cream parlors and bars nearby. The famous mother restaurant Motto in the 5th District has long been praised. Upstairs, at the cafe, the breakfast and burgers are spectacular. The light fare like the avocado and quinoa salad and hearty inspirations like the juicy motto burger are lunchtime favorites. The expansive deck is the perfect place to finish the day with a chilled "sundowner" and good conversation. Downstairs the menu is eclectic and somewhat confusing, with starters and main courses all in one list (the prices make the portions apparent). Besides classics like Wiener Schnitzel, a bouillabaisse with rouille on a bed of root vegetables with grilled croutons, or a chicken supreme with shiitake mushrooms and chard are good examples of this varied selection. The wine list seems endless and offers a great selection of regional favorites. Sip and nibble as you gaze at the urban waterfront.
