Planning a Trip

Getting There -- Villach is a railway junction for four different lines connecting central and southern Austria with Italy, and trains arrive throughout the day from Vienna (trip time: 4 1/2 hr.) and Klagenfurt (trip time: 25 min.). Although it's easier to take the train, several different bus lines fan out into the surrounding countryside. For train information, call tel. 05/1717; for bus information, call tel. 04242/44410. If you're driving from Klagenfurt, Villach is about 56km (35 miles) west on the Autobahn A2.

Visitor Information -- The tourist office, Rathausplatz 1 (tel. 04242/2052900), is open Monday to Friday 9am to 6pm, and Saturday 10am to 5pm.
