Frommer's Review
The Hotel San Martín is back, having undergone a total overhaul of its interiors in 2004. It doesn't look like much from the outside, but what's very appealing about this hotel is that the interior renovation paid tribute to its 1955 roots, fitting guest rooms with furniture that is faintly '50s modern: clean lines, polished wood, and chrome fixtures. Doubles have floral bedspreads and curtains, but the terra-cotta-hued suites are more sophisticated, spacious, and absolutely worth the $30 (£15) extra from a regular double sea view room. Double rooms here are tight; if you need a lot of room this is definitely not your place, or consider their suites. In many rooms you can hear the muted sound of cars, clip-clopping horse and carriages, and crashing sea, yet most guests say it isn't bothersome. Polished parquet floors with carpet runners and halogen lighting lend the hotel's public spaces coziness. The hotel has five rooms adapted to wheelchair users. Only the north wing of the hotel has sea views, and come at a higher price. The bathrooms, like the hotel as a whole, are spotless, and the hotel's central location is very convenient. There's no pool, but with the beach at your feet, who needs one?
