The elevator-less Etruria is housed in an 18th-century palazzo on one of the town's main drags, which is packed with strolling Volterrans every evening. The rooms and bathrooms have been completely refurbished, and there are some hidden treats, such as the stretch of 5th-century-B.C. Etruscan wall up on the second floor. A rooftop garden overlooks the terra-cotta roofs of Volterra and hides a gate opening directly into the city's manicured public gardens, the Parco Archeologico. The rates change according to the season, and in winter they prefer you take bed-and-breakfast.
