Pick up a guide map (or two) and a Times Guide (or three) when you enter the park. The information includes the day's entertainment schedule, listing all the special goings-on for the day. Included are concerts, encounters with characters, holiday events, parades, fireworks, restaurant hours, and the major happenings listed next. Tip: There's also an all-parks guide that includes much of the same information and is well worth picking up, too.
Playing the Part
As part of Disney's Year of a Million Dreams celebration, immersive entertainment experiences were added to the already impressive lineup of street-style shows in the Magic Kingdom:
1. Captain Jack Sparrow's Pirate Tutorial (Adventureland): The great Captain himself, along with his mate Mack, take on a pint-sized crew of pirates-in-training, teaching them the art of swordplay and other silly swashbuckling fun. Upon completion, the little pirates are sworn in as official swashbucklers as they say the pirate's oath and become honorary buccaneers and part of Captain Jack's crew.
2. Let's Have A Ball! The Happily Ever After Party (Fantasyland): It's a dance party of royal proportion -- Lady Lucinda and Merry Maker Simon (think Simon Says . . . ) gather up their guests to join in on the fun as they do the Lord & Lady Limbo, Lucinda's Freeze Dance, Simon Says, and the Grand Waltz.
3. Woody's Cowboy Camp! (Frontierland): Woody, Jesse, and Bullseye head through town, Frontiertown that is, rounding up guests along the way. Kids giddy-up on wooden horses, making their way through a cowboy obstacle course filled with cacti, mountains, and mineshafts as Bullseye leads the way. For Toy Story fans and kiddie-cowboys (or cowgirls), this one's a must!
4. Main Street Family Fun Day Parade (Main Street U.S.A.): Guests are invited to join in and march down Main Street right along with their favorite Disney characters, floats, and marching bands -- there's even a pint-sized stroller drill team (ensuring that little ones still in strollers -- and their parents -- have a place in the parade, too).
