Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort Review

Thanks to its moderate pricing scheme and recreational activities, the Caribbean Beach is a great choice for families. The resort's rooms are spread across five villages (all Disney "moderate" resorts share a similar general layout) of pastel-colored buildings, named for the islands of Aruba, Barbados, Jamaica, Martinique, and Trinidad (north and south). Try and snag a corner room if you can, as they let in more light, but don't bother springing for a pool view (those rooms can get noisy). In 2009, 384 rooms in Trinidad South were completely overhauled with a pirate theme (in this case, Pirates of the Caribbean), complete with ship-shaped beds and treasure-chest dressers. Disney expects to expand this type of "storybook" theming to other resorts sometime in the future. The lush tropical greenery adds a touch of island atmosphere. Parrot Cay, the resort's main pool area and playground, is themed as an old Spanish-style fort, complete with water cannons, water slides, and waterfalls. The closest park is Disney's Hollywood Studios, though it can take up to 45 minutes to get there using Disney transportation -- it's best to rent a car if you stay here.

Facilities:
Restaurant; food court; lounge; babysitting; bike rentals; Jacuzzi; large outdoor heated pool; 6 smaller pools in the villages; kids' pool; room service; watercraft/equipment rentals; WDW Transportation System; transportation to non-Disney parks for a fee

About Our System

Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.

Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.

The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
