Frommer's Review
The Oceanaire is a good spot for a lively party, with its red-leather booths, Art Deco decor, long bar, and festive atmosphere. It would be hard to get romantic or serious about business here -- there's just too much to distract you, like the sight of mile-high desserts en route to another table. Oceanaire serves big portions of everything (including cocktails, another reason to bring a bunch of friends here). On a menu that proclaims, "Fresh fish flown in daily from around the world!" you'll read intriguing names of fish on offer that day: grilled Hawaiian opah moonfish, Tasmanian steelhead trout, Ecuadorian mahimahi, and so on. These are usually served simply grilled or broiled. The waitstaff excel at explaining the tastes and textures of everything on the menu, so don't hesitate to ask. Two of the best entrees are the crab cakes, which are almost all lump crabmeat, and the fisherman's platter, a fresh, fried selection of oysters, scallops, shrimp, and other seafood, with hot matchstick fries alongside it all. The dozen varieties of oysters are fresh and plump, but if you want to start with a salad, consider the BLT, which is exactly as it sounds, like eating a bacon-lettuce-tomato sandwich without the toast.
