Charlie Palmer Steak ReviewA meal at Charlie Palmer is really about two things -- power dining and steak. The glass-fronted restaurant presents a stunning view of the Capitol most of the year (only the grounds and the Capitol dome are visible in summer), should you need reminding that politicking is going on all around you. Although the menu does include an excellent lamb rack and seafood entrees, its best offerings are the beef: hangar steak, rib-eye, petit filet, you name it. Recommended side dishes include Parmesan gnocchi and potato purée and, I kid you not, the roasted Brussels sprouts. Everyone raves about the trio of crème brûlées, so try that for dessert. The only steakhouse on Capitol Hill, CP Steak is more elegant, airy, and convivial than one might expect. It's a place to see and be seen -- in big groups, preferably. | 3 stars | Frommer's Exceptional |
Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.
Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.
The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
