Frommer's Review
This elegant two-story dining room caters to those with sophisticated tastes for Indian food. You'll find all the standards here: tandoori dishes, lamb vindaloo, and vegetarian entrees, such as the palak makai (herbed spinach), and vegetable fritters, each dish carefully prepared and seasoned. Service could be better, but the overall experience is rewarding. A second Heritage India is located in the Dupont Circle neighborhood, 1337 Connecticut Ave. NW (tel. 202/331-1414), but this one is a "brasserie and lounge," whose menu includes contemporary Indian cuisine. Small plates of samosas, pakoras, and kebabs go down nicely with a cocktail, and that's what the younger crowd comes here for, along with the dishes served at the original location and some more intriguing dishes, such as the hummus made with roasted garlic and black beans, and the tandoori-smoked mozzarella.
