Frommer's Review
All sorts of restaurants are opening in this U Street neighborhood, and all sorts of people are flocking to dine here. But the streets remain urban and edgy in appearance and in fact, no matter how upscale their eateries, crime occurs more often here than in most other parts of town. Crème, meanwhile, is a cross between upscale and down-home. First off, it's Creme, as in cream, not crème, as in them. On the menu are shrimp and grits, pork and beans, things like that, but these are a twist on your grandmother's versions, hearty and delicious, but more sophisticated: The beans are no ordinary canned baked beans but a mélange of cannellini and fava beans. Like everyplace else on U Street, Creme gets noisy and crowded as the night goes on, but try to stick around long enough for dessert: The coconut cake's my favorite -- and everyone else's, too, it seems.
