After 31 years, La Chaumiere is still going strong. This rustically handsome dining room centers on a large hearth, which makes it an especially welcoming place in winter. Year-round, the restaurant fills up with locals who know the specials by heart, as in, if it's Tuesday, that means "crabe en chemise" is on the menu: crepes filled with crabmeat, mushrooms, and champagne sauce. La Chaumiere prepares the full range of French classics just right, whether it's cassoulet or a chocolate soufflé. The service is warm but professional, and the diners who gather here are a motley bunch, alike at least in their love of this kitchen's authentic French cooking.
