Frommer's Review
Behind a facade of stainless steel, limestone, and glass is one of Washington's hippest places to stay. With a sleek white lobby, splashed with red, blue, and black furnishings; posters throughout the hotel depicting a modern-day George Washington, sans wig; and clientele tending toward celebs (everyone from singer Christina Aguilera to actor Sean Penn), the George is in every way a capital establishment. The oversize guest rooms underwent a remodeling in 2007, replacing bedding and upholstery, but the overall effect is still minimalist, all creamy white and modern, with 32-inch plasma-screen television, DVD player, and minibar hidden behind cabinet doors, and shades, not fussy drapes, nestled perfectly within the window frame. Fluffy vanilla-colored comforters rest on oversize beds; an ergonomically designed chair draws up to the black granite-topped desk. A speaker in the spacious, mirrored, marble and black-granite bathroom broadcasts TV sounds from the other room; other amenities include cordless phones, umbrellas, spa robes, and yoga essentials (mat, strap, and block, and instructional videos on a free TV channel). The newly renovated 24-hour fitness center features state-of-the-art exercise equipment, with personal TVs, and separate steam rooms for men and women. Like all Kimpton hotels, the George offers in-room spa services, which you can reserve when you book your room. The smoke-free hotel has three one-bedroom suites.
Contributing to the hotel's hipness is the presence of Bistro Bis, which serves hungry lobbyists and those they are lobbying.
