Frommer's Review
This well-run, all-suite property comprises two buildings, located on a residential street of quaint town houses, behind the Library of Congress, and a short walk from the Capitol and Mall attractions, a food market, and more than 20 restaurants (many of which deliver to the hotel). Capitol Hill Suites is the only hotel truly on the Hill (on the House side of the Capitol). The term suite denotes the fact that every unit has a kitchenette with coffeemaker, microwave, refrigerator, plastic flatware, and glassware. Most units are efficiencies, with the kitchenette, bed, and sofa all in the same room. The best choices are one-bedroom units, in which the kitchenette and living room are separate from the bedroom. A third option is a "studio double," with two queen beds and a kitchenette, but no living room area. Some rooms in each category have pullout sofas. A $3-million renovation underway until early 2008 is adding a small fitness center, updating the air-conditioning and heating systems, and switching from somber furnishings and signature navy blue shades to more whimsical art deco designs and improved amenities, such as new flatscreen televisions. Rooms remain spacious, and include long desks, ergonomically correct desk chairs, and beds that boast pillow-top mattresses, high-thread-count sheets, and down duvets. Bathrooms are still tiny. Lobbies in both buildings feature wireless Internet access and inviting lounges; the main building's lobby is especially nice and has an enclosed fireplace, leather chairs, and an antique credenza. (Linger here long enough and you might spy a congressperson or senator -- a number of members reserve suites for 100 days at a time.) The second building is home to the new fitness center and the breakfast area, where an ample continental breakfast is laid out daily: baked goods, yogurt, boiled eggs, and fruit.
