Frommer's Review

Try though it might to be a very 21st-century hotel, this Holiday Inn retains a rather staid ambience, but can be counted on to provide a perfectly adequate place to spend the night. Guest rooms are done in shades of cobalt blue, with zebra wood armoires, glass-topped desks with ergonomic mesh chairs, and triple-sheeted king-size or two queen-size beds. Rooms are standard size, though bathrooms are slightly larger than hotel-normal, with a small vanity ledge just outside the bathroom for overflow counter space.

For both business and leisure travelers, the hotel's proximity to Capitol Hill and to the National Mall is its prime attraction. Several labor union headquarters are nearby, making the hotel a popular choice among the "labor" folks doing business with one of them. Families like the hotel's additional enticements, starting with the hotel's website, where kids can log on to the scrapbook page to find out what other kids have thought of their stay at the hotel, and where parents can read about family packages. For instance, a 2007 "Family Fun" deal offered a noon check-in, checkout as late as 4pm, a lunchbox prepared for four each day, breakfast for two adults, and free parking, all for a starting rate of $259 a night, when available. Other family-friendly amenities include a seasonal rooftop pool and the "kids 12 and under eat free" restaurant policy. A free 24-hour fitness center is open to those 18 and older.

To get the best deals and perks, ask about summer promotions, the "Great Rates" package, and the hotel's "Priority Club" frequent guest membership.

Facilities: Restaurant (American), where kids ages 12 and under eat free w/an adult; bar; outdoor (unheated) rooftop pool; 24-hr. fitness room; business center; room service (6am-11pm); same-day laundry service; dry cleaning; Wi-Fi in restaurant and part of lobby; 8 rooms for those w/limited mobility, including 4 w/roll-in showers.

Note: This information was accurate when it was published, but can change without notice. Please be sure to confirm all rates and details directly with the companies in question before planning your trip.
