Frommer's Review
This is one of D.C.'s finest hotels, and certainly its most famous. From its magnificent lobby and grand Willard Room restaurant, favorite settings for movie directors, to its illustrious history, which includes the fact that two presidents (Lincoln in 1861, Coolidge in 1923) lived here for a while, the Willard warrants visiting, even if you don't stay here. But if you do stay here, you'll find you're perfectly situated near the White House, Smithsonian museums, excellent restaurants, and theaters.
Guest rooms present a handsome decor, heavy on reproduction Federal- and Edwardian-style furnishings. The rooms with the best views are the oval suites overlooking Pennsylvania Avenue to the Capitol and the rooms fronting Pennsylvania Avenue. Rooms facing the courtyard are the quietest.
The Willard's designation as a National Historic Landmark in 1974 and magnificent restoration in the 1980s helped revitalize Pennsylvania Avenue and this part of town. Stop in at the Round Robin Bar for a mint julep (introduced here), and listen to barman Jim Hewes spin tales about all the people who have stopped or stayed here, from Mark Twain to Bill Clinton.
The hotel's I Spa, charming Café du Parc, and schedule of seasonal festivities (Christmas caroling, a cherry blossom-themed afternoon tea in spring) offer further inducement to stop by.
Facilities: Restaurant (modern French-American); cafe; seasonal terrace, bar; thoroughly equipped fitness center and health spa; children's programs; concierge; 24-hr. business center; 24-hr. room service; babysitting; same-day laundry service; same-day dry cleaning; currency exchange; airline/train ticketing.

Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.
Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.
The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
