Frommer's Review
You're in a prime location here -- on Pennsylvania Avenue, adjacent to the National Theatre, 1 block from the Warner Theater, 2 blocks from the White House, and within walking distance of the Washington Monument, the Smithsonian museums, and lots of stores and restaurants. Corporate types and conventioneers make up much of the clientele, with tourists (including families) filling in the rest on weekends.
A recently completed $20-million overhaul of guest room furnishings and amenities replaced boring old bedspreads with white duvet comforters, laundered afresh after every guest. The bed itself is new, equipped with a thick mattress, and the linens include top-of-the-line 300-thread-count sheets with big pillows, and more of them. Each room has a state-of-the-art, 32-inch, LCD HDTV, able to connect with a guest's laptop or iPod. Expect a brighter, more interesting decor, too: earth-tone fabrics, cherry furnishings, and chrome-and-glass bathroom fixtures. Ask for a room on floors 3 through 15 facing Pennsylvania Avenue for views of the avenue and of the Washington Monument beyond; floors 7 and 12 on the Pennsylvania Avenue side have balconies; floors 14 and 15 are the concierge level.
For the best value, book around the Christmas holidays, any time during the summer, or on weekends. You're more likely to hear about special promotions by calling direct to the hotel or by browsing the hotel's website.
