Capital Hilton Review

Located just 2 blocks from the White House, this hotel has hosted 13 presidents since it opened in 1943. Though the hotel's historic stature once translated into "old in appearance," a major renovation finishing up in 2012 has spruced up its traditional look while introducing modern features. Best change of all is the sophisticated, fresh re-do of guest rooms, which included handsome new mahogany finishes, Williamsburg and Federal-style color palettes, and black-and-white photographs of D.C. landmarks. Corner rooms on the 16th Street side are the most spacious and offer the best city sights; a handful present a partial view of the White House. A number of suites are available, including three with outdoor patios. Also new: MINT DC, a state-of-the-art health club and spa.

The Capital Hilton is committed to the Hilton chain's goal of reducing energy consumption by 10% to 20% by 2014, and employs many other ecofriendly practices.

Facilities:
Restaurant; bar; concierge; concierge-level rooms; all-new health club and spa; room service

About Our System

Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.

Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.

The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
