Four Seasons ReviewThe Four Seasons tops my list for "best hotel in Washington." (It shares that billing with the Jefferson Hotel, which is much smaller, and so, exudes a different ambience.) The kind of service you receive from staff is unparalleled; the hotel keeps track of repeat guests' preferences and trains staff to recognize guests and greet them by name. The concierge team knows its stuff. Clientele draws from the world's wealthiest and most distinguished, from Hollywood actors to Middle Eastern statesmen. Recent renovations updated the entire "west wing," whose rooms measure anywhere from 625 to 4,000 square feet; added 11 new rooms; completely transformed the lobby and public spaces; and debuted the immediately popular restaurant, Michael Mina's Bourbon Steak. Located at the mouth of Georgetown, the hotel's original (east) wing holds spacious guest rooms, with custom-crafted furniture. Most rooms have sleeper sofas. Choose the west wing for ultraprivate feel; choose the east wing if you like being closer to the action -- the original part of the hotel is where the restaurant, bar, and spa are. Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.
Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.
The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
