Frommer's Review
This gracious hotel is a gem -- a small gem, but a gem nonetheless. It lies on a very quiet street surrounded by handsome residences, the embassies of Afghanistan, Syria, Senegal, and the Alliance Francaise. But you're only a short walk from great restaurants, bars, clubs, shops, galleries, and the Dupont Circle Metro stop, to get you anywhere else you want to go. A renovation in 2009 transformed the six-story hotel from old-fashioned to chic. Guest rooms look utterly different, decorated as they are in charcoal and ivory toile wallcoverings and drapes, raspberry velvet-cushioned slipper chairs, boxy lamps, and variegated marble-walled bathrooms. Rooms are small, with best ones overlooking the tree-lined Wyoming Avenue. The Normandy's public spaces are improved, as well, with the lounge now a plushly comfortable place to sit by the fire in winter or enjoy a good breakfast in the morning. With embassies for neighbors, the hotel hosts many embassy-bound guests. You may discover this for yourself on a Tuesday evening, when guests gather in the lounge, conservatory, and garden patio for complimentary wine and cheese.
Facilities:
Access to the neighboring Courtyard by Marriott Northwest's pool and exercise room; free Wi-Fi in public spaces
