The Mansion on O Street Review

A legend in her own time, H. H. Leonards Spero operates this Victorian property, made up of five interconnecting four- and five-story town houses. It's a museum, an event space, a private club, and a hotel.

Most breathtaking of the guest rooms is the two-level Log Cabin loft suite, with Remington sculptures, a bed whose headboard encases an aquarium, and an ecofriendly bathroom with sauna. The Art Deco-style penthouse takes up an entire floor, with large living room, two bathrooms, a bedroom, and a kitchen; it has its own security cameras and elevator. The mansion also has conference spaces; 32 far-out bathrooms; 18 fireplaces; and art, antiques, and books everywhere (everything is for sale). Be sure to look for the guitars displayed throughout the mansion, each signed by a famous musician, including Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, and Sean Ono Lennon. It's possible to rent the entire mansion or a portion of it. Full business services are available. H also hosts Sunday brunches and live music concerts.

Facilities:
Babysitting; children's programs; concierge; free passes to Sports Club/LA health club at the nearby Ritz-Carlton; Jacuzzi; room service; sauna

About Our System

Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.

Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.

The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
