The Dupont Hotel Review

This hotel gets high marks for convenience (it's right on Dupont Circle), service, and comfort. A 2009-10 renovation added a ninth floor ("Level Nine") and a duplex Presidential Suite (the only such in the city), and put an urban-chic spin on guest room appearance and amenities. Striped carpeting, leather headboards, and dark woods and fabrics lend rooms an overall handsome and streamlined look -- a look, actually, that applies throughout the hotel, including bar, restaurant, and lobby. Bathrooms have heated marble floors; most have showers only. Despite its prime location in a sometimes-raucous neighborhood, the hotel is designed to guard against rude intrusions, its guest rooms insulated from the noise. But if you want to see what's going on out there, ask for a room overlooking Dupont Circle. Streets lined with cafes, bookstores, galleries, bars, and boutiques surround the hotel. The Dupont is nonsmoking.

Restaurant; bar; babysitting; children's programs; concierge; concierge-level rooms; state-of-the-art fitness center w/cardio and weight machines; room service

About Our System

Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.

Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.

The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
