Washington Marriott Wardman Park Hotel Review

This is Washington's biggest hotel, resting on 16 acres just down the street from the National Zoo and several good restaurants. Its size and location (the Woodley Park-Zoo Metro station is literally at its doorstep) make it a good choice for conventions, tour groups, and individual travelers.

The hotel's oldest section, built in 1918, houses about 100 rooms, each with high ceilings, ornate crown moldings, and an assortment of antique French and English furnishings. The main building completed a major renovation of all guest rooms in 2008, updating their look and furnishings by adding multilayered, Marriott-brand bedding, flatscreen TVs, and long desks with high-backed chairs. The overhaul also installed all new, state-of-the-art equipment in the fitness center and vastly improved the in-house restaurant, now called the Stone's Throw. Harry's Bar, meanwhile, serves well as a comfortable place to have a drink after your meeting. The entire hotel is nonsmoking.

Facilities:
Restaurant; 2 bars; babysitting; concierge; concierge-level rooms; well-equipped fitness center w/outdoor heated pool and sun deck; room service

About Our System

Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.

Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.

The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
