Downtown between H and I streets, the Hilton Garden Inn is across the street from Metro's Blue Line McPherson Square station (and three stops from the Smithsonian museums station), within a short walk of the White House, and 7 blocks from the convention center and the Verizon Center. Rooms are spacious with either king-size or double beds and are designed for comfort -- each room has a cushiony chair with an ottoman and a large desk with an ergonomic chair and adjustable lighting; a dial on the side of the mattress allows guests to adjust its firmness. A recently completed renovation spruced up public areas and refurbished all guest rooms with a more upscale decor, including new bed linens and drapes and 32-inch, flatscreen LCD HDTV sets, capable of connecting with a guest's personal laptop or iPod. The hotel's 24-hour pantry sells essentials; the business center allows free use of computer, faxing, and copying services. Except for guest rooms on the 14th floor, the designated smoking level, the hotel is smoke free. The hotel's location and perks make this 8-year-old hotel a good choice for both business and leisure travelers. Each of its 20 suites holds a small pullout sofa in the living room.
