Frommer's Review
A whimsical decor rules in the guest rooms, where a refurbishment completed in 2007 transformed rooms with splashes of emerald, sapphire, ruby, and other jewel tones on wallpaper, down comforter, armoire, and armchair. The rooms are unusually large, averaging 400 square feet; half have an alcove with a desk and a separate dressing room. The Topaz pursues a sort of New Age wellness motif; note the smooth "energy" stones and horoscope placed upon your pillow. You have the option to book a specialty room: either an "Energy" guest room, which includes a piece of exercise equipment (an elliptical or a stationary bike), fitness magazines, and TV with VCR and CD player; or a "Yoga" room, which comes with an exercise mat, an instructional tape, padded pillows, special towels, and yoga magazines.
The Topaz lies on a quiet residential street whose front-of-the-house windows overlook picturesque town houses.
Facilities:
Bar/restaurant; babysitting; bikes; children's amenity program; concierge; access to nearby health club ($5 per guest); room service

Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.
Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.
The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
