The Ritz-Carlton Georgetown, Washington, D.C. ReviewThis Ritz is exclusively small, designed like a sophisticated refuge in the middle of wild and woolly Georgetown. Privacy-seeking celebrities and romancing couples love it. Look for the 130-foot-high smokestack to guide you to the hotel, which is built on the site of an historic incinerator and incorporates the smokestack into its design. The lobby's front brick wall is original to the incinerator, the restaurant is called Fahrenheit, the bar Degrees, and the signature drink the "Fahrenheit 5 Martini." Guest rooms lie one level below the lobby, accessible by an elevator that requires a key card to operate, so anyone visiting you must either be escorted by you or a staff person. Large guest rooms average 450 square feet and feature lots of dark-wood furniture and accents. Bathrooms, likewise, are spacious and deluxe, with marble vanity, separate tub and shower, and fancy wood shelving. More than one-third of the rooms are one-bedroom suites. The Ritz is nonsmoking. | 3 stars | Frommer's Exceptional |
Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.
Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.
The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
