Frommer's Review

This 13-story hotel opened in March 2005, 2 blocks from the convention center and the Verizon Center, and within walking distance of the many restaurants and clubs in the Penn Quarter. (Though not technically "in" the Penn Quarter, the hotel lies close enough to be included.) The Hampton Inns are a "value-priced" chain, code for "low-budget," so you may be surprised to find a more upscale version in this property. From the saltwater aquarium on display in the expansive and light-filled lobby, to guest rooms that feature a charcoal and chocolate-brown color scheme, fluffy duvets, ergonomic chairs, and lapboard bed trays, this Hampton Inn seeks to satisfy a more sophisticated traveler than usually frequents this particular Hilton brand. You can expect to pay a higher rate than is typical for a Hampton Inn, too. Other amenities include an exercise room, an indoor pool and spa, and a Hampton Inn signature perk, the "On the House Hot Breakfast Buffet," which serves up scrambled eggs, sausage, biscuits, fresh fruit, or some variation on that theme. Ask for a corner room on the Massachusetts Avenue side, high up, for the best city views, from the tip of the Capitol to the Washington Monument. In addition to standard king- and queen-bed rooms, the hotel has 10 studio suites, 12 two-room suites, and 20 king study suites (the suite holds both a king bed and a sofa bed).

Facilities:
Cardio fitness center w/indoor pool and spa; 24-hr. free business center; same-day laundry service; dry cleaning; on-site washer/dryer; 20 rooms for those w/limited mobility, some w/roll-in showers
