Frommer's Review

If you like a hotel to be more than simply a place to turn in for the night, you will love the 2-year-old Palomar. This Kimpton Hotel offers a rocking scene nightly in the restaurant's bar/lounge Urbana, a complimentary wine reception each evening in the lobby, and a warmly whimsical decor in the guest rooms. The hotel lies in the throbbing heart of the fun Dupont Circle neighborhood, full of art galleries, boutiques, and excellent restaurants, and it regularly invites local artists to pop in for the evening wine hour. In fact, the Palomar fancies itself a kind of art gallery, with its creative use of color and design, from the creamy Murano glass chandeliers and displays of handcrafted decorative arts in the lobby, to the splashes of mulberry and magenta, zebrawood, and faux leather finishes in the guest rooms. These are spacious rooms, averaging 520 square feet, and comfortably appointed, with a maneuverable, oversized elliptical desk, an ergonomic mesh chair, and an undulating chaise longue. The bathrooms hold granite-topped vanities and L'Occitane bath products. And even if your only concern is that good night's sleep, you'll be happy here, for soft white Frette linen sheets and duvets make up the plush feather beds. When you do turn in, you'll find on your pillow a card displaying an original artwork, this hotel's signature nightly turndown practice. As at most other Kimpton properties, the Palomar also offers a variety of specialty rooms, which include 18 "Tall" rooms (the beds are 90-in. kings) and 8 "Motion" rooms (each comes with your choice of available in-room exercise equipment).

Facilities: Restaurant (Italian/Mediterranean); bar/lounge; outdoor (seasonal) lap pool with sun deck and private cabanas; 24-hour fitness center; 24-hour concierge; 24-hour business center; 24-hour room service; same-day laundry and dry cleaning; 16 rooms for those w/limited mobility, 6 with roll-in showers.
