Frommer's Review
Located along D.C.'s newest nightlife avenue, H St. NE, this club aims to offer an intimate setting for singer-songwriter acts, although louder indie rock bands frequently appear. The Red & The Black's owners also own the larger DC9 , and it seems to catch that club's alternative sounds overflow. The two-story R&B features a New Orleans-style bar on its first level, with a tin ceiling and red velvet drape decor, jambalaya on the menu, and Abitas listed among the beers. The music takes the stage nightly upstairs. Drive here or take a taxi. Friday and Saturday nights, 10pm to 2:30am, the H Street bars offer free transportation, via the Atlas Courtesy Shuttle (tel. 202/906-0697), to Union Station, where you can catch the Metro.
