A 3km (1.9-mile) loop trail rings the peninsula that holds Waterton Townsite and links to long-distance trails. Cameron Falls, just above the Evergreen Avenue Bridge, is a good place to pick up the trail. From the Red Rock Canyon Trail Head, follow the main trail a mile up the canyon to see rust-red cliffs. From the same trail head, turn south and follow Blackiston Creek to Blackiston Falls, a 1km (.6-mile) leg-stretcher.

The most famous day hike is to Crypt Lake. This 17km (11-mile) round-trip is strenuous, but worth the effort for those in shape. The International Shoreline Cruise to Goat Haunt makes eight stops daily at the trail head.

Long-distance hiking trails skirt the edge of Upper Waterton Lake and link to the trail system in Glacier National Park.
