The Fox and the Grapes

Young and friendly James Pellegrini -- who may not seem like the stereotype of Victorian innkeeper -- oversees this very relaxing and spacious B&B. It's ideally located, just up from the east bank of Seneca Lake, near plenty of the area's best wineries and restaurants. The house is a large white 1885 Victorian manor with lake views from the terrace and back room (the deck is the place to be for sunset). James did a nice job restoring the house. Accommodations are elegant, but not overly fussy, with relatively sedate colors and furnishings, and fine bedding. One room has its own private balcony, and the East Lake suite, with its exposed brick, is particularly masculine (even though the walls are a dusky pink!). Speaking of which, those who might otherwise be disinclined to check into a Victorian B&B will be happy to see the huge-screen TV and collection of DVDs in the massive living room that boasts a fireplace and an entire floor of Persian rugs.
