Planning a Trip

Getting There

Several lake steamers (tel. 041/367-67-67) depart from the quays of Lucerne for Weggis every day, requiring about 45 minutes for the transfer. Once you reach Weggis, a local bus run by the village transports you (in the summertime only) from the lakefront to the upper reaches of the town.

Though Weggis is not directly accessible by rail, the railway junction of Kussnacht lies 9.6km (6 miles) from Weggis. From Kussnacht, buses depart for the 10- to 13-minute ride to Weggis.

If you're driving from Lucerne, drive east on Route 2, along the northern rim of Lake Lucerne, cutting south on Route 2b at the signposted turnoff to Weggis.

Visitor Information

The Weggis Tourist Office, Seestrasse 5 (tel. 041/390-11-55; www.wvrt.ch), is open Monday to Friday from 8am to noon and 1 to 5:30pm, Saturday and Sunday 9am to 4pm. (Off season the office remains closed on weekends.) If you'd like to go biking along the banks of Lake Lucerne, you can stop in here and rent a bike for the day for 25F.
