Ijoukak is situated on the high ground above the meeting points of the Agoundis and Nfis valleys, and offers an alternative, less trodden trekking route up to Jebel Toubkal. The village is a busy tea and tagine stop between Marrakech and Taroudannt. The Tin Mal Mosque is about 8km (5 miles) southwest from Ijoukak, and is clearly visible beside present-day Tin Mal, to the west of Oued Nfis and the main road. Don't confuse it with the Talat-n-Yacoub kasbah, on the southern edge of Ijoukak to the east of the main road, which was home to the Goundafi clan, one of three tribal families who controlled the three traditional trade routes between Marrakech and the Saharan interior until colonial times. You can easily dedicate a day or two to exploring this area.
