Review of OuirganeSet in a green valley of the Oued Nfis river, this peaceful village is a great spot to stop between Marrakech and Taroudannt or as an alternative day-trip destination from Marrakech. There are plenty of easy walks around the village, some with great views looking down onto Lake Yacoub el Mansour, a recent creation thanks to the construction in 2008 of Le Barrage de Ouirgane (Ouirgane Dam). Mountain biking (100dh per day), horseback riding (500dh for half-day), and trekking with a local guide (250dh per half-day) with mules (50dh per hour) can be organized from the village's two hotels (I review one of these), where you can also indulge in some fine cuisine. Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.
Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.
The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
