Toubkal Lodge Review

This is the ultimate mountain getaway. Above the village of Id Issa in the heart of the Western High Atlas, Toubkal Lodge offers true solitude and breathtaking scenery, without sacrificing the creature comforts that this sort of location usually requires. The lodge espouses a similar ethic to that of sister property Kasbah du Toubkal , providing quality accommodations, unobtrusive service, environmentally friendly practices, and truly sustainable standards; a village association has already been formed in partnership with the lodge to carry out community projects, and many local villagers were hired during the lodge's construction. Luxury touches include solar-powered under-floor heating throughout, and huge bathtubs in each room. A lounge warmed by a wood-burning stove and world music offers up the most spectacular panorama from floor-to-ceiling picture windows, while on a clear night the star-dotted vista from the rooftop terrace is quite incredible. This is a lodge for all travelers no matter your preference, as it is accessible on foot (a half- or full-day's hike from Imlil, depending on your preferred route), by vehicle via an 18km (11-mile) dirt track, or even by horse or mountain bike (by prior arrangement). Some guests arrive intent on further exploring the surrounding mountainside, while others are perfectly happy to relax and enjoy the solitude; be sure to bring your own alcohol should you wish, as there is no on-site liquor license.

About Our System

Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.

Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.

The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
