Classic diner fare is served up daily in this local institution, a relic of the days when a slew of local diners catered to railroaders working the freight and passenger trains converging in White River. (Amtrak still makes one daily stop across the street.) The diner's interior is painted robin's-egg blue, the walls are hung with railroad photos and train models, and the waitresses still call you "honey." You sidle up to a counter stool, near locals discussing the Red Sox, and order fried-egg sandwiches, or relax in a booth and order filling, decent meals of liver and onions, burgers, fried fish, and the like. (If you're here at breakfast time, try the good homemade doughnuts.) Architecturally, this isn't your classic, brushed-steel diner, but the place has all the atmosphere and food of one.
