Attracting both the town and gown crowd, this well-worn, often noisy restaurant is both Williamsburg's favorite coffeehouse and one of its best choices for light, inexpensive meals. I often start my day here with a fresh pastry and cup of gourmet coffee or tea, although the morning fare also includes sausage biscuits, brie-stuffed French toast, and bagels with lox and cream cheese. Lunch switches to sandwiches, wraps, salads, and several vegetarian selections. A limited menu of main courses appearing after 5pm is headlined by Low Country barbecued shrimp over cheese grits. Order at the counter and wait for your number to be called, and be prepared to dine with plastic utensils. Beer and wine are served by the glass.
