Frommer's Review
Across the street from the Williamsburg Inn, the foundation's second-best hotel was undergoing a massive renovation during my recent visit; in fact, "rebuilding" would be a better description. Most of the original structure had been torn down and was being replaced by a new building housing the Lodge's restaurant and other public areas, including Williamsburg's most extensive conference facility. The project was scheduled for completion by the end of 2006. The Lodge was still operating, with reception in a building next to the Williamsburg Inn, and guests were being treated to continental breakfast each morning in a hallway of the existing Tazewell Wing, which is being retained. Its rooms have balconies facing landscaped courtyards, which those in the other wings do not. New, more luxurious rooms already were opening in colonial-style "Guest Houses" between the Tazewell Wing and the main building. The new units are notable for their Colonial Williamsburg-designed furniture and their retro 1930s bathrooms. In the meantime, you can stay here and take advantage of the Williamsburg Inn's facilities.
