Frommer's Review
About 7 miles west of the Historic Area, near the intersection of I-64 and Va. 199, this theme hotel built of logs to resemble a rustic Rocky Mountain lodge is geared to families with children. A whimsical theme prevails (the two cafeteria-style restaurants are named Bear Claw Cafe and Camp Critter Bar & Grille), but despite the rusticity, the star of the show is a monstrous indoor water park featuring a plethora of pools and water slides. You may have to pry your kids away from this aqua wonderland to see the Historic Area, but you won't need to take them to Water Country USA if you stay here. On the other hand, you can spend your leisure adult hours being pampered in the full-service spa. While a few guest rooms have hot tubs and fireplaces geared to grownups, most carry on the family theme, with log cabin-like areas set aside for bunk beds (the kids get their own flatscreen TVs). A few larger units have kitchens. Only the hotel's guests can use the water park, whose admission is included in the room rates -- thus explaining why they appear so expensive.
