The closest you can stay to Colonial Williamsburg (without staying in the Inn or the Lodge) is this second-story bed and breakfast atop the shops of Merchants Square. The building's history dates to the re-creation of Colonial Williamsburg; it was built as a shop and apartment building in the far west end of the town. Rooms vary considerably but they all have charm aplenty, each has a queen or king bed, many of them canopy, and a touch of family or town history recalled in the photos and knick-knacks that decorate each room. If you don't want to climb the stairs every day or you're traveling with family, ask for the little Drummer's Cottage, across the street. It has a separate sitting room with pull-out sofa and two bedrooms, one with queen bed, one with bunks. Breakfast is not included for the cottage but pastry and orange juice are delivered.
