Because Wilmington is a major destination for business travelers, numerous hotels cater to them downtown. That said, no matter where you go in Delaware, when you hear people refer to "The Hotel," they mean the Hotel du Pont in Wilmington. For more than 80 years, this hotel has dominated the Delaware lodging scene.
Most local hotels charge top prices Sunday through Thursday -- spiking in late spring and early fall -- but on weekends, rates drop. Summer, by the way, is low season around here and prices plummet, even at the Hotel du Pont. Look also for packages combining accommodations with tickets to area attractions.
Tip: The suburbs offer additional choices -- including the area's best.
