This grand Colonial Revival mansion sits atop the crest of an open hill just east of Wilmington. Built in 1915 by a lumber baron, the interior features hardwood floors, arched doorways, and nice detailing throughout. It's often a lively and bustling place, especially in winter, with cross-country skiers, snowshoers, and snow tubers (there's a great hill out front) all milling about. The guest rooms are simply furnished in Colonial Revival style; nine have wood fireplaces and four feature whirlpools. The best choices include room 1, a corner unit with fireplace and vintage white-tile bathroom, and room 3, which has its own balcony and sitting room with fireplace. The dining room, which serves Continental fare, is one of the region's more popular fine dining restaurants. The inn is often booked for weekend weddings in summer.
