Frommer's Review
International guests come to this inn, which bears the unique imprint of its creator, former actor John Tovey, who treats his guests as if they had been invited to a house party. His country estate overlooks Lake Windermere (with views of the Langdale Pikes) and offers stylish accommodations and exquisite cuisine. The house was built in 1916 in the Edwardian style, sitting on 2.2 hectares (5 1/2 acres) of statue-dotted garden and parkland. Each of the large, graciously furnished rooms is supplied with binoculars to help guests fully enjoy the view; other amenities include CD players and umbrellas. Beds are sumptuous, often canopy-draped, each with colorful spreads and padded headboards. Bathrooms have generous shelf space and tub/shower combinations; four rooms have Jacuzzis. There are even copies of Punch from the 1890s.
Facilities:
Restaurant; 3 lounges; conservatory room; croquet lawn; room service; laundry service; dry cleaning; nonsmoking rooms
