Frommer's Review
If you love grand historic hotels, the Fort Garry is the lodging for you. Built in 1913, the Fort Garry was for decades the city's most opulent hotel. With its towering château style, it was designed to mirror New York's Plaza Hotel. The Fort Garry boasts an elegant lobby and handsome dining rooms and lounges, and the ballrooms are classics of early-20th-century grandeur. For a hotel of this vintage, rooms are spacious and exquisitely furnished with top-flight linens, feather-top beds and pillows, and luxury soaps and lotions. Forget the cheap coffeemaker and stale coffee usually found in hotel rooms; the Fort Garry offers complimentary (and freshly brewed) coffee, tea, cookies, apples, and newspapers delivered to guest rooms whenever required. The quality amenities, exemplary service, and the overall sense of elegance make this a memorable stay. The new and luxurious Ten Spa has taken over the entire 10th floor of the hotel and in addition to treatments and massage, offers a hammam, or Turkish bath.
