Cat's Corner Café

Positioned in the geographical center of Winston-Salem's business district, this is the most appealing and least pretentious sandwich joint and cafe in town. It evokes a California-inspired oasis of wholesomeness and informality that's incongruously set into a high-ceilinged commercial space on the ground floor of one of the town's largest office buildings. Tables are set under the open sky of West Fourth Street, with additional seating inside the public space of the anonymous-looking shopping arcade. We prefer the luncheonette-style counter that faces the busy kitchen, out of which emerges some of the tastiest sandwiches we've ever had. The entire menu consists of salads, burgers, and sandwiches, examples of which include fried green tomatoes with bacon, lettuce, and red tomatoes; blackened catfish with Cajun-flavored mayo; and Caesar salads garnished with strips of grilled chicken.
